Flights

It is strongly recommended that:

  1. Patients ask their doctor if they are healthy enough to fly.
  2. Patients use oxygen when flying; you are allowed to use a portable oxygen generator on flights.
  3. Patients check with their travel agent whether the model of their personal generator is one that may be used on flights. This is extremely important.

If necessary, patients can contact the Association about borrowing one of the Association’s portable concentrators by calling, 0747-029-092.

We are currently working on having oxygen provided to patients for free on all flights. At this time, the only airline to provide this service is British Airways.

Some flying tips:

  1. Take a U.S. power adapter because it is the most commonly found outlet on planes and in passenger boarding areas around the world.
  2. To prevent blood clotting, it is recommended that you walk around the plane. It is best to use the time when most passengers are sitting/sleeping to do this.
  3. It is best not to eat a heavy meal or food before or during the flight.
  4. Before the flight, ask for a wheelchair escort from the terminal entrance to the boarding area. When traveling with El AL go to counter 99 to request this service. When traveling abroad this service is often only available after you have checked in.
