Rehabilitation

One of the most important things that a patient with pulmonary hypertension can do for her/himself is rehabilitation.
Patients with pulmonary hypertension have enormous difficulty doing the simplest daily functions (e.g. walking a few feet). In fact, tasks which seem to be completely effortless, such as bathing or getting dressed, become very strenuous and difficult to do. The most recent studies have shown that controlled exercise is critical and invaluable to pulmonary hypertension patients because of how it helps further improve the efficacy of the medications being taken compared to the efficacy of medications when not combined with an exercise regimen. While drugs play a critical role in prolonging the patient’s lifespan, it is clear from these studies that combined with with an exercise regimen the performance of these drugs rose by tens of percentage points in helping patients recover years before those who only took drugs.

This has also been shown in clinical trials and is well recognized by the patients who have undergone the rehabilitation exercise regimen in a controlled manner. Patients in Israel should go to the Tel Hashomer Institute and Beilinson Hospital for this therapy. Patients who have gone to these centers have felt a significant improvement in their overall functioning and quality of life for a long time after treatment.
