Pulmonary hypertension is a debilitating illness that can strike children and adults of all ages but most often afflicts women in their childbearing years. The disease affects the blood vessels between the heart and lungs causing a drop in oxygen levels and injuring the right side of the heart muscle. Women stricken with the illness are unable to function normally. They have difficulty walking from one room the next, climbing stairs or otherwise conducting their daily affairs.
The Israel Pulmonary Hypertension Association, a subsidiary of Europe Hypertension Association , was established in 2000 in order to assist and support people suffering from the disease. The organization's objectives include:
